OPINION: Gun Control: The Tool of Tyrants

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.”
-The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution

The most important phrase in the Second Amendment is “shall not be infringed.” The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines “infringe” as, “an act as to limit or undermine (something); encroach on.” In a time when a major political party in the United States routinely runs on limiting and eliminating the right to keep and bear arms, it is of the utmost importance we as Texans rally to the cause of preserving our rights.
Those politicians say Americans do not need certain firearms to hunt or to protect themselves. They are perfectly happy to regulate your right to an allowable group of firearms that they deem reasonable. But this is not what the founders were addressing when the Second Amendment was written. At the time of the ratification of the Second Amendment (December 15, 1791), America had just finished an eight year war with a tyrannical government that was oppressing them. The amendment was passed not to hunt or to protect yourself from an intruder, but to protect yourself from a tyrannical government.

Would you be outraged? This is the exact experience that homeowners have every year with property taxes and the privilege to own a home.

The Debt, The Fed, Inflation, and You

Inflation hit a 13-year high in June at 5.4%, a result of trillions added to the national debt and the Federal Reserve (Fed) printing money at the fastest rate in history. New dollars printed by the Fed in 2020 made up nearly 20% of all money in the US economy. US debt at the end of 2020 was 129% of the National GDP.

What does this mean for you? As inflation outpaces income for the average household, the buying power that your dollar has is greatly decreased and as the price of goods increases it will hit the middle- and low-income classes the hardest. Lower- and middle-class Americans will see the price of goods rise at an inflated rate while their paychecks will fail to keep up.

WALLER COUNTY — The Libertarian Party of Texas recently appointed a new chairman for Waller County.

The third largest political party in the nation named Jacob Bradley as the chair of the Waller County party.

“The Libertarian Party continues to fight for freedom and liberty for the citizens of Texas, and I will continue that fight here in Waller County,” Bradley said. “The Libertarian Party believes that each and every individual should be free from an overreaching government that intrudes into citizens’ lives on a daily basis, whether it is overbearing taxes, over-regulation, or incarcerating people for nonviolent, victimless crimes.”
